Check out Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion if you are new to that franchise. If you want an excellent strategy tabletop RPG, Gloomhaven is a much, much better version of this game. It plays differently, but it has much more of the feel of a Lord of the Rings game, because the missions you play are familiar to you and it has more recognizable enemies and characters. If you are just after a great Lord of the Rings game, check out the Lord of the Rings Living Card Game. The battle maps are weirdly small and don't leave a lot of room for strategic combat. These beginner tips and tricks should help make it a lot more accessible to new players. The missions feel repetitive, there wasn't a lot of choice each turn (flip your cards and hope you succeeded, mostly), and your character doesn't grow very much over the campaign. Gloomhaven may be highly rated, but it's also pretty complex. The missions don't feel very thematic to Lord of the Rings, other than the characters you play.
